Justin brings more than 25 years of commercial insurance and executive leadership experience, with a track record of scaling teams, mentoring producers, and driving disciplined growth. Prior to launching HG Risk Solutions, he led a major Dallas brokerage office through a period of record expansion and talent development. Today, he focuses on building a relationship-driven, producer-led firm designed to deliver modern risk strategy with long-term client advocacy at its core.

Justin D. Tatum is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of HG Risk Solutions, a boutique Texas-based commercial insurance brokerage dedicated to Honoring Tradition while Modernizing the Insurance Buying Experience. With more than 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, Justin is widely recognized as a transformational leader who combines deep industry knowledge with a people-first approach to growth.

Career Journey

  • Justin began his career working in his mother’s Farmers Insurance Agency in Abilene, Texas, where he developed a passion for client advocacy and entrepreneurship.
  • While attending Lubbock Christian University, he continued building his foundation at another Farmers agency, gaining early experience in sales, client service, and operations.
  • He advanced into commercial insurance at MHBT, a premier independent brokerage in Dallas-Fort Worth known for its client-first, faith-driven culture. At MHBT, Justin built a significant personal book of business, specializing in construction, real estate, energy, and risk programs such as OCIPs, while also mentoring emerging producers.
  • Following MHBT’s acquisition by Marsh McLennan Agency (MMA) in 2016, Justin rose quickly through leadership. By 2021, he was appointed President and Head of Office for MMA’s Dallas branch, overseeing more than 550 employees and leading the firm to record growth.

Record Growth Highlights

  • Expanded office revenue from $80M to $125M in just three years.
  • Doubled new business from $10M to $20M annually.
  • Recruited and developed 14 experienced producers with books ranging from $200K to $4.3M.
  • Built and led an Emerging Advisor program that produced 20 new professionals generating $3M in annual new business.

Founding HG Risk Solutions

In 2025, Justin launched HG Risk Solutions with a clear vision: to create an independent, producer-led brokerage that blends the best traits of the traditional agency model, including deep relationships, local presence, and autonomy, with the agility, technology, and efficiency required for modern risk management.

HG Risk Solutions focuses on serving industries central to the Texas economy, including construction, manufacturing, energy, healthcare, real estate, private equity, and not-for-profit organizations.

Personal Life

  • Justin has been married to his wife, Alicia, for 18 years, and together they are raising three boys (ages 5, 9, and 11).
  • The family are active members of Prestonwood Baptist Church.
  • Justin is deeply involved in his children’s lives, coaching football, baseball, soccer, and golf through the Prestonwood Sports Organization.
  • He and his family are also members of Gleneagles Country Club.

Legacy & Vision

Justin believes the future of insurance belongs to smaller, regional firms that can adapt technology faster, foster relationships, and compensate producers and staff fairly with lower client loads. His goal is to make HG Risk Solutions not just a successful brokerage, but the absolute best place to work, living out the charge from his mentor Bill Henry to be the Pied Piper for talent and you will never fail.

Chris brings more than a decade of experience in the commercial insurance and risk management industry, having begun his career in insurance and financial services in 2008. Throughout that time, he has advised middle-market organizations, strengthened client relationships, and contributed to building sales teams across both national platforms and boutique brokerage environments, gaining broad perspective on growth, leadership, and competitive execution.

As Chief Sales Officer of HG Risk Solutions, Chris is responsible for shaping the firm’s growth strategy, developing high-performing advisors, and building a sales culture grounded in accountability, competition, and long-term client value. He works closely with advisors and leadership to ensure sales execution is aligned with HG Risk’s advisory-first approach and commitment to disciplined, sustainable growth.

Chris has spent much of his career focused on producer development, coaching new and experienced advisors through key stages of growth and helping them build durable, well-structured books of business. His leadership style emphasizes clear expectations, consistent coaching, and measurable accountability, with the belief that success is best achieved through preparation, discipline, and ownership.

He joined HG Risk with the conviction that much of the industry has moved away from true advisory work, often prioritizing volume over quality and transactions over long-term outcomes. At HG Risk, Chris helps lead a different approach, one designed to support advisors who want to operate as trusted risk advisors, compete at a high level, and deliver meaningful results for clients.

Chris is a proud graduate of Texas A&M University (Class of ’96) and has built his career and life in Texas. He lives in Frisco with his wife, Michelle, and their family. Chris believes the same principles that drive strong families, including trust, accountability, and consistency, are essential to building great teams, lasting client relationships, and successful organizations. In partnership with HG Risk’s leadership, he is focused on building a firm where advisors are developed intentionally, clients are served exceptionally, and success is earned the right way.
